Self-illuminated, hybrid sculpture - polymer clay used for figure, painted resin prints for the sword, phone, jewelry, coat clasps, and boot eyelets. Tattoos were done in copic marker. Worm blood is polyurethane resin. LEDs are 1515 neopixel leds running off an adafruit itsybitsy M4 express.
Decided to sculpt Hector after having done his shading for the film, Coco. Had lots of good reference to work from :D

This project was created as a gift to Pam Choy, our department Head at Pixar. We finished it over the course of three days, with help from Alonso, Mara, and Nancy who pulled a late night rolling fronds for the Anemone. It helps when you have 3d turntables of a character as reference.
Completed 2016

This sculpture evolved out of an idea and then changed several times in the process of sculpting. Still not sure if I like it, but here it is.
Completed 2017
Airbrushed resin print from a oil-based figure study from my Thursday night sculpting group, draped with polymer clay. 2020.
A 'deviant' creature from my book, Shattered. Gaspers are humans mutated by extra terrestrials to communicate via smell.
Completed 2017
Polymer clay, with a custom circut board, light sensors, UV and blue leds throughout. Humongous thanks to my brother Jim for collaborating on this project. I fried the first circuit board, but thankfully had two printed. This sculpt took longer than a year from start to finish. The light sensor enables the UV leds to kick on when the room's lights go out. The translucent patterns on the figure phosphoresce under UV light.
Completed 2009

This was a student sculpt I did for my senior project at BYU, kites.
Completed 2007
Polymer Clay, RGB Leds embedded in the palms. Big thanks to my brother Jim for collaborating on the electronics. The light animates and cycles through different colors over time.

Sculptures done during our weekly Thursday night sculpture sessions at Pixar. I'll append new sculpts as I go.
My first foray into Cernit clay. Softer than I like (quite a few lumps and bumps I had a hard time smoothing out). The pockets of resin were a major pain to create and embed, also quite prone to cracking.
All in all, this one took wayyyy too long. Turned out okay, but not as good as I would have liked.
So this is technically a thursday night sculpting group sculpture - I didn’t pick the pose or the figure, I just decided to make her non human…ish. The crystals are poly-urethane resin.
Collab with my brother, James, 2020. Polymer clay, LED, resin 3d prints from Form3
